Through Newman, I found the virtuous friendships I had prayed and cried for; God heard me. |
What is the impact Newman has had in my life, you ask? I cannot fathom my life without Newman. I have been a part of the Newman Center since 2019 when I transferred to college. I graduated from Illinois State University in 2022 with lots of preparation and accolades in my career. However, Newman is hands down what I am most thankful for from college career. I used to think that I chose ISU because it is one of the best education schools in the country but the reality is that God brought me to ISU to be a part of the Newman family. The Newman Center has been a boat to ride amongst treacherous waters. Newman offers concrete steps to grow in a relationship with God through attending the events, attending mass, Father offering confession, and a tide of other young individuals also striving towards Heaven. I have tried time and time again to do life without God but it is deemed impossible. I can’t do it on my own. Through Newman, I found the virtuous friendships I had prayed and cried for; God heard me. I have also gained spiritual support from the sisters and father and a loving environment to be my true self. God has chiseled immense healing I did not know I needed and comforted me with love. Remember this, where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more. Throughout the last five years, God has asked me to let go of friendships, a relationship, asked me to move across the country, and more. Anything He asks, He is worthy of it all. I am beyond thankful to be a part of the Newman family. If I can leave you with any final words, I say this with a great sense of prayers and urgency, it is this: Stay close to God. If you are fighting with God, let Him win. It’s worth it. Know that you will be in my prayers. I really hope to see you soon.
